Grapevines are best grown in well drained soils on sites that also have good air drainage or movement. They need to be intensively managed for 2 to 3 years to establish the extensive root systems and build the vine framework that will carry fruit for many years to follow. After the establishment period, vines will need annual pruning and a pest and disease management program to produce healthy crops of grapes.
